So recently (the past few days) I've had Windows Explorer crash frequently. I think that each time has been starting a video playing in VLC, but I'm not entirely sure. It could be related to some errors I've been ignoring (since Windows is running fine) at startup, but I'll have to give those later.

If re-installing VLC fails, are there any thoughts as to what might cause the problem? Google has been less than helpful. (I've already run a full ad-aware sweep. Found a couple things, but didn't help.)

Edit: I should probably give a tad more info, shouldn't I?
This is on XP SP3, and after explorer.exe crashes, Watson Debugger goes and dies. But I have to open task manager and end the task of whatever windows explorer window I have open for it to really fully die, then it all comes back.

"Watson goes and dies"? Did you successfully send the Watson report?

No, the first and last thing I see about it is the message that it also crashed and burned.

Edit: Okay, interestingly, this time (for the first time) it fully died when it stopped working, then came back, without me having to go into task manager. Also, no Watson message at all, not even to say that it, too, crashed. This is after I reinstalled VLC.

(Oh, and it's "C:\WINDOWS\Config\csrss.exe" that it's unable to load at boot.)

Edit 2: And the next time it went back to normal. Stupid Windows Explorer and Watson Debugger...wait...I just realized, I think I have been getting the option to send a bug report. I'm just so used to not sending one...next time, I shall. (Still an annoying issue, though.)

C:\Windows\Config\csrss.exe

That is not a windows file, csrss.exe is an important system file, but that's not where it lives, you might have a virus.

Probably the remnants of a virus, then, because my virus checks and spyware checks haven't found anything for a long time. It probably went bye-bye quickly, but not before messing with the registry enough to be told to be run at start-up.

I had a problem similar a while back. It was a problem caused by windows trying to generate thumbnails. I don't know if that's the same problem, nor remember how it was fixed.

I don't use thumbnail view, I use details view, so I'd think that it shouldn't try doing that...
